Animal And Poultry Production Division
|
The goal of this division is to increase the productivity of animals raised under desert conditions. Research focuses on developing alternative resources to combat food shortages during the dry season controlling heat stress, water insufficiency and salinity and desert region diseases The division consists of five research departments.

The department conducts studies on:
1) improving desert animal breeding stock as well as dairy and meat production
2) improving poultry production performance under desert conditions.

This department conducts studies on the following:
1) utilization of natural rangelands as the main source of feed, augmented by
feed supplements
2) treatment of unpalatable range plants for the use as animal feed
3) utilization of agro-industrial by-products as animal feed
4) utilization of animal waste in rations and in biogas production.

The department conducts studies on:
1) the reproductive performance of desert animals
2) housing of desert animals

This department conducts studies on:
1) the different characteristics of local wool and methods for improvement
2) the grading of local wool for industrial use.
